⚠️ Always verify submission policies before contacting an agency. Policies change frequently. Most reputable agencies do not charge upfront fees. If an agency asks for money before signing you, consider it a red flag.

How to Submit to DC Agencies
Email is the standard submission method for most DC agencies. Send your headshot (JPG, under 2MB), resume (PDF), and a brief, professional cover letter. Unsolicited drop-ins are generally unwelcome and can work against you.
What to include: Professional headshot, acting resume with union status clearly marked, a short cover note explaining why you're right for their roster, and a reel link if you have one. For voiceover, always include a demo reel.
Union status matters in DC. The DC market has a strong SAG-AFTRA and AEA presence. If you're non-union, some agencies will still consider you — but joining the union opens more doors, particularly for film, TV, and higher-budget commercials.
Follow up once, not repeatedly. If you haven't heard back in 4–6 weeks, a brief follow-up is acceptable. After that, move on and try again in 6 months with updated materials.
DC Agency Tips for Actors
- The DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) market is smaller than New York or LA but growing fast — competition is lower and relationships matter more.
- DC is unique in having strong government, political, and historical film production — highlight any relevant type if applicable to you.
- Many DC agencies work across all three areas (DC, MD, VA) — being willing to travel within the DMV makes you more bookable.
- Theatre is a major part of the DC market — even on-camera actors should consider building a theatre resume here to increase visibility.
- Register on Actors' Access and Casting Networks regardless of agency status — DC casting directors use both platforms frequently for self-submissions.
- The SAG-AFTRA Washington Baltimore Local is active — attending events and union meetings is a genuine networking opportunity in this market.
- Never pay upfront fees to any agency. Legitimate agencies earn commission only when you work (typically 10–15%).
